Avontec has solved the combined challenges of effectiveness and delivery in developing its novel decoy oligonucleotides. Avontec’s decoy therapeutics are protected by 7 patent families which have been filed in up to 12 countries, including the United States, the European Community and Japan. Five of the patents surrounding Avontec’s technology and products have issued.

 

Avontec’s product candidates AVT-01 and AVT-02 turn transcription factors into drugable targets. Both products attenuate the effect of STAT-1, an important transcription factor, and thereby reduce production of several pro-inflammatory gene products relevant in asthma and psoriasis.

Pilot human data on AVT-01 in asthma and AVT-02 in psoriasis show that both candidates demonstrated measurable effects on relevant endpoints.

 

By acting upstream of many potential inflammatory factors and by only attenuating, not completely blocking, the activity of their transcription factor targets, Avontec’s product candidates achieve an excellent safety profile.

Pilot human data on AVT-01 in asthma and AVT-02 in psoriasis show that both candidates demonstrated excellent safety.

 

Unlike biological therapies, Avontec's decoys can be chemically synthesized at a moderate cost of goods. This new class of drugs offers the best of both worlds: the efficacy of targeted therapeutics combined with the low cost of small molecules.
