Dr. Asam joined DVC as a Partner in 2001 to further establish the firm’s life sciences activities. Prior to joining DVC, he held various positions in multinational Companies (Hoechst AG, Aventis SA, Tektronix Inc.), as well as in a biotech firm. He was a member of the team that planned, prepared and executed the dual listing on NASDAQ and the German Stock Exchange of LION bioscience AG. Dr. Asam received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Heidelberg and was granted an industry scholarship to conduct postdoctoral research work at the University of Amsterdam. In addition, he holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from ASTON Business School, Birmingham U.K. Prof. Hecker is Director of the Institute for Physiology and Pathophysiology of Heidelberg University. He co-founded Avontec in 2001 and held the CEO position of the company until June 2003. From 1996 to 2004, Prof. Hecker was a professor at the Department of Cardiovascular Physiology of Goettingen University. After obtaining a PhD in Biology from Constance University, Germany, he worked for several years at Georgetown University, Washington D.C., St. Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, London, U.K. and Freiburg University, Germany. Prof. Hecker is specialized in molecular medicine and is the principal inventor of several patents or patent applications on the therapeutic use of the company's core technology. Dr. Hosang has a strong pharmaceutical and VC background. Prior to joining BioMedinvest, he was a Venture Partner at MPM Capital, where he was co-responsible for MPM’s European deal flow, managed the European office in Munich and served on the board of several portfolio companies. Prior to joining MPM in 2002, Dr. Hosang was with Roche, where he served for nearly twenty years in several senior management positions in the Pharma R&D organization, most recently as the VP and CSO of Genetics and Integrated Medicine and as a member of the Roche Genetics Executive Committee. Dr. Hosang received his PhD in Biochemistry from the ETH in Zurich and pursued his postgraduate training at Stanford University Medical School and at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Neermann is one of the early life sciences venture capitalists in Germany. He started his venture capital career in 1996 at Atlas Venture, where he was a key member of the international life sciences team. In 1998, Dr. Neermann joined DVC to develop the life sciences activities. In 2002, he became DVC's Managing Partner, with responsibility for the overall investment strategy and operations. Dr. Neermann holds an M.S. and a Ph.D. degree in biotechnology, which he studied at the TU Braunschweig and at M.I.T., Cambridge. He also studied economics at Harvard Business School and at the TU Braunschweig. During his tenure as Ph.D. student at the German National Research Institute for Biotechnology (GBF), Dr. Neermann was also employed by a strategic management consultancy firm. Dr. Keveloh has been an authorized officer for ubg Goettingen, Hildesheim & Co. KG since 2001. In 2002, he became Managing Director of Innovations Capital Goettingen GmbH. After a first degree in banking he studied business administration at Muenster University. After graduation he joined Sparkasse Goettingen in the strategic planning department being responsible for controlling and strategic development. Dr. Liu has 22 years of hands-on product development experience from the early development stage to the late development stage and including commercial production. At AnGes Inc. he serves as COO/Senior Vice President. Prior to joining AnGes in 2002 he held several managerial positions at GenVec, Genetic Therapy and W. R. Grace & Co. heading manufacturing process development activities for a variety of lead products. Dr. Liu received a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Columbia University, New York, N.Y. a M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Clarkson University, Potsdam, N.Y. and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C. . Miki Nakamori is in charge of all licensing and business development activities of AnGes since 2001. She has successfully executed licensing deals including with Daiichi Sankyo Pharmaceutical and Goodman as well as licensing and investment arrangements with Avontec (Germany) and Vical (US). From 1993 to 2001 Mrs. Nakamori held various positions with increasing responsibilities in the Technology & Business Development Department and the Healthcare Department at Mitsubishi Corporation. Mrs. Nakamori graduated from Kyoto University, Faculty of Agriculture in 1993.
Dr. Bai is VP of Medical Affairs of AnGes MG. Prior to joining AnGes MG in 2005, Dr. Bai previously served as COO and CBO at SanBio, Inc. in Mountain View, California. Prior to that, he was a Business Manager for New Ventures at Guidant Corporation. Dr. Bai holds an MD and a Ph.D. from Osaka University in Japan as well as an MBA from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California.
Prof. Afting is member and the Chairman of Avontecs Supervisory Board since September 2007. From 1995 to 2006 he was President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Research Center for Environment and Health in Munich, one of the largest German government-funded research centers. Between 1993 and 1995 he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Roussel Uclaf S.A. in Paris, France. Since 1984 Prof. Afting held various positions within the Hoechst AG. Among others he was Member of the Board of Behring-Werke, Marburg from 1984 to 1989; Head of world-wide Pharma Research of Hoechst AG from 1989 to 1991; Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Devision of Hoechst AG from 1991 to 1993. Prof. Afting studied Chemistry and Medicine at the Universities of Münster and Freiburg and was tenured professor and head of the Department of Protein - Chemistry in the Institute of Biochemistry at the university of Göttingen until 1984. At present Prof. Afting serves as industrial advisor to venture capital firms and is supervisory board member of several biotech companies in Europe and the USA.
